Widowed Parent's Allowance

You may be able to get a regular payment of Widowed Parent's Allowance if you are:

The amount you can get is based on your late husband or wife's NI contributions. The allowance is £75.50 and in addition you can get between £9.65 and £11.35 for each child.

Bereavement Payment

You may be able to get a single payment of £2,000 if you are under the state pension age (60 for women or 65 for men) and are the widow(er) of a spouse who was not entitled to a category A Retirement Pension when (s)he died (this is where enough NI contributions have been paid), or are the widow(er) of a spouse who has paid NI contributions.

Funeral Payments (The Social Fund)

You can get a single payment to help towards the costs of a funeral if you or your partner are either receiving Income Support, Income-Based JSA, Housing Benefit, Council Tax Benefit, Working Tax Credit where a disabled worker is included in the assessment, or Child Tax Credit at a rate higher than the family element. You can apply any time after the date the person died and up to three months after the date of the funeral.
