Crown Servants overseas - Health in Pregnancy Grant information

If you're a Crown Servant posted overseas - for example a civil servant or a member of HM Armed Forces - you can get the Health in Pregnancy Grant. To qualify for it you need to satisfy some special rules.

Who qualifies for the grant?

If you work as a Crown Servant overseas, to get the grant you need to meet the usual qualifying rules about being 25 weeks pregnant or more and getting health advice from your midwife or doctor.

In addition, immediately before you were posted overseas, one of the following needs to apply:

  • you were usually living - known as 'ordinarily resident' - in the UK
  • you were in the UK about your posting, not just visiting the UK before your posting began

If your partner or parent is a Crown Servant posted overseas

You can also get the grant if one of the following applies:

  • you have a partner who's a Crown Servant working overseas and you have gone to live with them while they work abroad
  • your parent is a Crown Servant working overseas and you have gone to live with them while they work abroad - but they must be getting Child Benefit for you at the time you make your claim for the grant

Where to get the claim form

  • for HM Armed Forces - you can get the claim form from your HM Forces medical centre, or contact your HM forces Administration Officer for further information
  • for civil servants - you can get further information on how to claim by calling the Health in Pregnancy Grant Helpline (see below)
