If you are a social housing tenant there are a number of ways that you can apply to move home to another area. One alternative is to use a mobility scheme. Mobility schemes are designed to assist social housing tenants who wish to move within the social rented sector.
There are currently two housing mobility schemes: ‘Seaside & Country Homes’ and ‘LAWN’.
Seaside & Country Homes
If you live in social housing in London and are 60 or over, you are eligible for this scheme. If so, you can move from London to properties owned by Seaside & Country Homes in rural and seaside areas of the UK.
LAWN
This is a landlord referral scheme that aims to help you move from London to other parts of the UK. To be eligible for LAWN you must live in social housing in London. There is no age limit for applications to LAWN.
How to apply for a Seaside & Country Homes move
Application forms to join this scheme are available from your local authority if you are a London tenant aged 60 or over. If you have any questions about your registration then you can contact the 'Housingmoves' team on 08450 21 20 20. If you were registered for the Seaside & Country Homes Scheme under moveUK, your registration should be unaffected and you will still be considered for a move.
How to apply for a LAWN Mobility move
You may contact your landlord directly to find out if they participate in a mobility scheme like LAWN or you may call the Housingmoves team. Alternatively, some London Councils have a LAWN Mobility Scheme Officer whom you can contact directly.
If you were registered with your local Council for a Local Council for a LAWN Mobility Scheme move before January 2007, recent changes in delivery of the scheme will not affect your position.
