When you phone NHS Direct, a nurse will give you confidential advice and information. You can ring for advice if you're feeling ill and you're not sure what to do, or for health information on particular conditions such as diabetes and allergies.
NHS Direct can also tell you where to find your nearest doctor, pharmacist, dentist, support group and other health services.
You can phone NHS Direct on 0845 4647, at any time of day or night. If English is not your first language, you can use a confidential translation service.
A textphone service is also available for people who have difficulties with their hearing or speech on 0845 606 4647.
Calls to NHS Direct cost a maximum of five pence per minute from a BT landline. The cost of calls from mobiles and other networks may vary. Your service provider may charge a minimum cost per call. For patients' safety, calls to NHS Direct are recorded.
