Contact the Honours and Appointments Secretariat

You can send nominations for an honour to the relevant government department or to the Cabinet Office using the contacts below.

Where to send nomination forms

Nominations for people who are mainly involved in a particular sector can be sent directly to the government department responsible for that sector. This includes, for example, people working in:

  • education
  • transport
  • the arts
  • local government

A nomination for a teacher who also does charity work can be sent straight to the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF). A nomination for someone who is involved with sport at grassroots level can be sent straight to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).

Below is a list of departments that cover particular sectors.

Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF)

Contact DCSF to nominate anyone involved with a school, college or university, for example:

  • headteachers
  • teachers
  • assistants
  • mid-day supervisors
  • school secretaries
  • governors
  • vice-chancellors

DCSF is responsible for nominations of anyone involved in:

  • youth work
  • Boy's Brigade
  • Brownies
  • Girl Guides
  • Cubs
  • Scouts
  • foster carers
  • children's charities
  • play and nursery schools

DCSF is also responsible for those involved with lifelong learning or skills training, for example:

  • tutors in adult education centres
  • people working in further education colleges
  • people working at the learning and skills council

Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG)

 Contact the Department for Communities and Local Government for:

  • all council members and some staff - excluding specialists who are served by another government department, such as social workers (Department of Health) or tourism managers (Department of Culture, Media and Sport)
  • cartographers and related specialists
  • community workers and volunteers, for example those involved with either a New Deal for Communities project or a particular housing estate, including tenants' / residents' association activists
  • firefighters and their support staff
  • homelessness activists, both employed and voluntary
  • housing association staff and board members
  • planners and developers (both private and public sector, but excluding architects, surveyors and those directly involved in the construction process)
  • regeneration specialists (both private and public sector)
  • people dealing with equality issues which includes race, faith, gender and sexual orientation

Department for Transport (DfT)

 Contact DfT for:

  • employees, officials or specialists working in the aviation industry including airlines, airports, incident investigations, air security and air traffic control
  • employees and specialists in road construction and road maintenance
  • people at all levels including volunteers dealing with road safety
  • people at all levels working in or dealing with local transport including local roads, buses, trams, taxis, cycling and pedestrians
  • people at all levels involved with shipping, seafaring, ports and maritime search and rescue
  • people working in overground or underground railway systems
  • workers and volunteers dealing with mobility and access for people with disabilities
