New Deal for Lone Parents

New Deal for Lone Parents is a voluntary Jobcentre Plus programme specifically designed to help lone parents into work.

New Deal

New Deal aims to help you get a job if you are out of work. It will give you the chance to train, learn and do work experience so that you:

  • can become more confident
  • get new skills
  • can be worth more to people looking for staff
  • can find and stay in work

New Deal for Lone Parents

New Deal for Lone Parents is a voluntary programme specifically designed to help lone parents into work. It offers a package of support to help you move towards a more secure future for you and your children.

If you choose to take advantage of what's available by joining New Deal for Lone Parents, a Jobcentre Plus personal adviser will take you through the steps to find and apply for jobs. Your adviser will also offer practical advice and help about finding childcare and training. Your adviser will also be able to tell you about how benefits will be affected when you start work and help you apply for any in work benefits or tax credits.

It's entirely up to you whether or not you take part. The New Deal for Lone Parents provides as much help as you need to make a move into work.

Joining New Deal for Lone Parents

You can join New Deal for Lone Parents if you are bringing up children as a lone parent, if your youngest child is under 16 years old and you are not working, or you are working less than 16 hours per week.
